Copper Bison Head Sculpture, Signed and Dated 1977

Renowned Native American artist and sculptor, Charles ‘Charlie’ Pratt, created this life size buffalo head in copper in 1977. The sculpture incorporates an etching of a Cheyenne warrior on the left side of the forehead, when the light strikes it at the right angle, the warrior image becomes extraordinarily vivid! The piece is signed Charles Pratt 1977. One of Pratt’s sculptures was on view in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building at the time of the 1995 bombing. That wood and metal piece did survive and is now displayed in the Oklahoma City National Memorial. We are saddened to note that Charles Pratt passed away recently, on July 15, 2017. The Indian Arts and Crafts Association named Charles Pratt its artist of the year in 1985 and 2004. Pratt received The Lifetime Achievement honor in 2002. He earned more than 400 awards during his long artistic career, and his work is in private and public collections around the world. – Brandy McDonald, The Oklahoman. This important, one-of-a-kind copper sculpture also incorporates authentic American Buffalo Horn. Pratt was quite prolific, yet very few pieces are available on the market. This piece, consigned by a close friend of Pratt, is priced for a quick sale. Please take the time to google Pratt for price comps and to see his fascinating history!
